Tata Punch Flex Fuel: At the 2025 India Mobility Expo, Tata Motors unveiled its new Punch Flex Fuel concept, which signals a step in a new direction. It is the same Punch that we know in the petrol variant, but now it has been given a special change. This SUV will now be able to run on both ethanol (E85) and 100% ethanol (E100), making it a smart and eco-friendly option. Let’s know its features in detail.

What is Flex Fuel

Flex fuel vehicles have a special engine, which can run on a mixture of ethanol in addition to petrol. Ethanol is a biofuel, which is mainly made from wheat, maize, and sugarcane. It can be used as an alternative to petrol, which helps in reducing pollution and also saves energy.

Tata Punch Flex Fuel Features

The Tata Punch Flex Fuel has the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine found in its petrol variants. However, this engine has been slightly updated to protect it from the more dangerous effects of ethanol. This means that this engine will now work properly on 100% ethanol as well.

The power and torque figures will remain the same, which is capable of generating 86bhp of power and 115Nm of torque in the petrol variant. It will be available in 5-speed manual and AMT (automated manual transmission) options, making driving even more comfortable.

Why is this move of the government and Tata Motors important

The development of Tata Punch Flex Fuel is not just a technological advancement but is also linked to the government’s initiative to promote ethanol as an alternative fuel. Increasing the use of ethanol will not only reduce pollution but will also boost the country’s agriculture. Moreover, domestic production of ethanol will be from local resources like sugarcane and grains, which will boost the country’s energy security and reduce dependence on imports.

This move is beneficial for the government as it will increase tax revenue and also create new employment opportunities. By introducing this flex fuel vehicle at the expo, Tata Motors has indicated that it is ready to adapt to the government’s new fuel policy, which will benefit both parties.
