Volkswagen Polo GTI: Volkswagen might bring back the much-loved Polo nameplate in India, but in a completely different avatar. The Polo has been the company’s most affordable hatchback, which Volkswagen discontinued several years ago, but the sportier variants of the Polo still have a huge fan following among the people.

Now, the company might consider importing the new generation of Polo to India as the GTI through CBU route. The Polo will not be manufactured here but will be imported in limited numbers as a CBU. The new-gen Polo GTI is a super hot hatchback, while Volkswagen also sold the previous Polo GTI in limited numbers as a 3-door model years ago. The old Polo GTI was launched in 2016 and very limited units were sold in india.

Could return to India

The new Polo GTI could return to India as before, while the new generation model comes with a 2.0l turbo petrol engine that generates over 200bhp. If company decides to relaunch the GTI version of polo in Indian market, it’s the first time of Polo will come in india in its new avatar. The previous Polo established the GT range here and the return of the GTI will serve as a strong reestablishment for the brand in the premium space. However, it remains to be seen when and which model will be launched in India.

Could launch next year

We can expect the GTI badge to return with the Polo GTI in 2025. Volkswagen has previously introduced several models in India under the CBU route such as the T-Roc and the Tiguan All-Space, while the GTI represents the sportier segment of the carmaker and there are many who have been eagerly waiting for this badge to return to India.
