Central government employees are really looking forward to the establishment of the 8th Pay Commission. It’s been a decade since the 7th Pay Commission was set up, and typically, the government rolls out a new pay commission every ten years, which usually leads to salary hikes and adjustments in the dearness allowance (DA).
In this piece, central employees are hoping for a quick decision from the government. Experts suggest that the Ministry of Finance might announce something during the Union Budget 2025, but so far, there hasn’t been any official word on it.
About the 8th Pay Commission
The 7th Pay Commission was approved by the central cabinet under Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2014. It took effect on January 1, 2016, with changes rolling out from July 1, 2016. Recently, there have been hints that the government might be considering forming a committee for the 8th Pay Commission.
Questions in Parliament
Back in February 2014, the 7th Pay Commission was approved, and it became effective on January 1, 2016, with salary changes starting on July 1, 2016. Now, a question has been raised in the Rajya Sabha about the 8th Pay Commission, and the finance ministry has responded. In a written statement, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary mentioned that there are currently no plans to set up the 8th Pay Commission.
