Passport Verification: In an effort to enhance the transparency and efficiency of passport verification in Bihar, the police have introduced a new system. The verification process will now be conducted through the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS), a digital platform that connects all police stations across the state.

Why Bihar Police has initiated this process?

This system enables law enforcement to access comprehensive information regarding any registered cases against an individual with a single query. Under this updated protocol, the details and photograph of the passport applicant will be uploaded to CCTNS. Upon conducting a search within the system, it will automatically scan statewide records to determine if there are any criminal cases associated with the applicant.

Benefits of this initiative

Consequently, information regarding crimes recorded not only at the local police station but also at any district’s police station will be promptly disclosed. To ensure the effective implementation of CCTNS, specialized training has been provided to police personnel. Recently, a training session was held for officers from all police stations in Patna district at the Police Headquarters in Sardar Patel Bhawan, where officials from the Regional Passport Office were also present to receive comprehensive guidance on utilizing CCTNS.

More difficulties for individuals with criminal backgrounds

This initiative by the Bihar Police is expected to bolster transparency in the passport verification process, making it significantly more difficult for individuals with criminal backgrounds to obtain a passport through false information. Ultimately, this will expedite and enhance the accuracy of the verification process while contributing to crime prevention efforts.
