Aadhaar Card Voter Card Link: In response to the allegations concerning irregularities in voter ID cards, the Election Commission has made a significant decision to link voter ID cards (EPIC) nationwide with Aadhaar. To facilitate this process, technical experts from the Commission will collaborate with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

Currently, the Commission possesses Aadhaar information for over 66 crore voters, which has been voluntarily submitted for the purpose of linking with voter ID cards. This decision was reached on Tuesday following extensive discussions with the Union Home Secretary, the Secretary of the Legislative Department, and the CEO of UIDAI. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was accompanied by Election Commissioners Dr. SS Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi during these discussions.

According to media reports, the Commission also provided details about the application designed to link voter ID cards with Aadhaar, assuring that no data will be shared between the two entities. The primary function will be to authenticate voters, which will help identify fraudulent or incorrectly registered voters. Additionally, linking EPIC to Aadhaar will offer several advantages to voters.

In practice, while individuals frequently update their addresses in Aadhaar to access essential services, few take the initiative to update their EPIC. By linking it with Aadhaar, the process of updating EPIC will be simplified.

Benefits of linking voter ID with Aadhaar include:

– Resolution of errors related to the voter list.

– Presentation of a verified list of voters to the nation.

– Prevention of the addition of fraudulent names to the voter list.

– Resolution of complaints from political parties.

– Elimination of the possibility for individuals to register in multiple locations, ensuring that no one can be registered in two different places.
