The economic crisis and rising inflation in India have made it difficult for many families to get two meals a day. Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) is an important initiative aimed at helping these poor families. Under this scheme, the government plans to provide 40 kg of ration every month to such families, either free of cost or at a nominal price, ensuring that people living below the poverty line can live a dignified life. In this article, we will share all the details, including the application process, eligibility, and more information about Antyodaya Anna Yojana 2024.
What is Antyodaya Anna Yojana?
Antyodaya Anna Yojana is a food security scheme launched on December 25, 2000, to provide food grains at subsidized rates to the poorest families. Under this scheme, 35 kg of grain (20 kg wheat and 15 kg rice) is available every month at a rate of just ₹2-3 per kg. In 2024, the scheme has been expanded to include more poor families.
The objective of Antyodaya Anna Yojana
The main objective of Antyodaya Anna Yojana is to provide food security to the poor and deprived sections of society. In times of rising inflation, poor citizens should receive essential food items at affordable prices to prevent starvation. Major Changes in Antyodaya Anna Yojana in 2024
- Increase in the Amount of Food Grains
In 2024, the government has increased the amount of food grains provided under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana. Previously, each family received 35 kg of food grains. This has now been increased to 40 kg, including 20 kg of rice and 20 kg of wheat. - New Subsidy Rates
