When we think of ATMs, the first thing that pops into our heads is usually cash withdrawal. Sure, that’s the main purpose of an ATM – to let you grab cash without stepping into a bank. But there’s actually a lot more you can do at an ATM that not many people are aware of. Here are 10 things you can do besides just taking out money.
You can withdraw cash
It’s no secret that ATMs are primarily for withdrawing cash. To do this, just have your debit card handy and remember your PIN. Simply insert your card into the machine, and you’re good to go!
Check your balance and view mini statements
A lot of folks use ATMs to check their account balance. You can also see a quick overview of your recent transactions. The mini statement feature lets you view your last 10 transactions right there on the screen.
Transfer money between cards
According to the State Bank of India’s website, you can transfer funds from one SBI debit card to another. You can send up to 40,000 rupees daily without any fees. Just make sure you have your ATM card, know your PIN, and have the recipient’s card number handy.
Pay your credit card bill (VISA)
You can also pay off your VISA credit card balance at an ATM. Just remember to have your card with you and know the PIN to complete the transaction.
Move money between accounts
You can easily move money from one account to another using an ATM. You can link up to 16 accounts to a single ATM card. Just head to the ATM with your card, and you can securely transfer funds without any hassle.
Paying life insurance premiums
You can also handle your life insurance premium payments at the ATM. Companies like LIC, HDFC Life, and SBI Life have partnered with banks for this. Just remember your policy number and have your ATM card handy, and you can pay securely.
Requesting a checkbook
If your checkbook is full, there’s no need to visit the bank for a new one. You can simply request a new checkbook at the ATM, and it will be sent directly to your registered address. If you’ve moved, make sure to update your address when you make the request.
Paying bills
You can pay your utility bills at the ATM too. Just keep in mind that not all bills can be paid this way. You’ll need to check if the company is partnered with your bank, and the biller must register on the bank’s website first. However, many people prefer using UPI for bill payments these days.
Mobile banking registration
These days, most banks set you up with internet and mobile banking when you open an account. If your mobile banking isn’t activated yet, you can do it at the ATM. And if you decide you don’t want mobile banking anymore, you can easily deregister it at the bank.
Changing your PIN
Want to change your ATM card PIN? You can do that right at the ATM. Many people change their PINs if they think someone else might know it. Plus, it’s a smart idea to change your PIN regularly to keep your account safe from cyber threats.
