Big news for govt employees. Especially if you are also EPFO member then this article is for you. The Ministry of Labour and Employment has directed the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) to ensure that the Universal Account Number (UAN) of all employees is activated. This step has been taken to provide comprehensive benefits of the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme and empower digital services.

Benefits of UAN Activation

Once the UAN is activated, the employees will get 24/7 uninterrupted access to the online services of EPFO. With this, they can better manage their provident fund (PF) accounts. Submitting claims online for withdrawals, advances, or transfers.
Monitor the status of claims in real-time.
Keeping personal details updated.

This process eliminates the need for employees to visit the EPFO office, saving time and resources. The Ministry has instructed employers to start the process with new entrants. By the end of the current financial year 2024-25, i.e. by 30 November 2024, UAN of all new employees should be activated through Aadhaar-based OTPs.

The use of biometric authentication and facial recognition technology will be included in the UAN activation. EPFO is planning to make this campaign a success through its regional and zonal offices. Also, efforts will be made to increase awareness in collaboration with employers so that maximum number of employees can take advantage of the ELI scheme.

This move is a major effort towards strengthening the digital services of EPFO

The ministry also said that the UAN activation will not only benefit the employees, but also the employers, as they will also get speed and transparency in processing. This campaign of EPFO will not only make services easier for the employees, but will also link it to the goal of Digital India. This initiative is a strong example of technological inclusion in the Provident Fund Schemes, which will have a brighter future for both employees and employers.
