Good news for lakhs of state government employees. The government of Jammu and Kashmir has announced a three percent increase in the dearness allowance (DA) for both current government employees and retirees who are on the Seventh Pay Commission pay scale. This means that employees across various departments will now receive a DA of 53 percent, up from the previous 50 percent of their basic salary.

This adjustment will take effect from July 1, 2024, and employees will receive the arrears for the period from July to December 2024 along with their February 2025 salary. Similarly, retired employees will also see their DA rise to 53 percent from the current 50 percent of their pension and family pension.

On Monday, two official orders regarding this DA increase were issued by Santosh D Vaidya, Principal Secretary of the Finance Department.

In December, employees of the Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) received positive news as the previous Omar Abdullah government announced a one-time 20 percent increase in their dearness allowance, effective from August 1, 2024. This change will benefit around 1,500 permanent officers and employees of the corporation, marking the first increase in nearly five years.

To provide some context, the dearness allowance was set at 17.5 percent in 2019, and it has now risen from 139 percent to 159 percent. This decision has been warmly welcomed by the corporation’s employees. Transport Minister Satish Sharma commended the dedication of JKRTC staff, highlighting their commitment to delivering safe, affordable, and reliable transport services to the public in the state.
