The Food Supply Departments of Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh have extended the e-KYC deadline to February 2025, which was previously set for December 31, 2025. Ration card holders who fail to complete their KYC by the new deadline will have their names removed from the ration card, resulting in a loss of access to food grain distribution. Beneficiaries residing in other states do not need to return to their home state for Aadhaar seeding; they can complete their KYC at the nearest public distribution system shop.
The deadline for eKYC in Odisha and Bihar is January 31, 2025. The Odisha Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Department has announced that ration card holders who do not complete the eKYC process by this date will have their cards canceled. Beneficiaries are encouraged to visit local electronic public service centers or ration distribution points to complete their eKYC. New ration cards will be issued once all eligible beneficiaries under the Public Distribution System (PDS) have finished the eKYC process.
Similarly, the Bihar government has also set January 31, 2025, as the final date for eKYC. To complete the eKYC for a ration card, it is essential for the holder to have their ration card number. Additionally, all individuals listed on the ration card must possess an Aadhaar card. Biometric verification for each member will be conducted using their Aadhaar card, and every family member registered on the ration card must visit their ration dealer to provide their thumb impression for biometric verification.
Why is eKYC important?
eKYC, or Know Your Customer, is crucial for confirming the identities of ration card holders and eliminating fraudulent ration cards. Completing the KYC process ensures that only eligible individuals benefit from the system. If a fraudulent ration card is identified, it can be removed from the system.
Under the eKYC process, each member of a ration card must verify their name, date of birth, and other details against their Aadhaar information. To do this, they will need their Aadhaar card, ration card, mobile number linked to Aadhaar, and an email ID if available.
