Big news for train passengers. There is a big update revealed regarding the fare of India’s premium and high speed train Vande Bharat Express. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw explained that train fares vary based on the amenities offered. He noted that the country provides various train services tailored to different passenger categories.
This information was shared by Vaishnaw in a written response to inquiries in the Lok Sabha about the higher fares of Vande Bharat trains.
What did he say regarding the Vande Bharat train fares?
Congress MP Rakibul Hussain from Dhubri, Assam, asked if the government had thought about lowering the fares of the Vande Bharat Express to make this premium service more accessible, particularly for low-income individuals.
In his reply, Minister Vaishnaw stated that Indian Railways determines fares by considering the service costs, the value provided, passenger affordability, and other socio-economic factors.
The Railway Minister explained that train fares vary depending on the amenities offered in each service. Indian Railways caters to different passenger groups by operating various types of train services.
Recently, Indian Railways introduced the Amrit Bharat services, which consist entirely of non-AC trains.
He mentioned that the assessment of passenger fares, including those for Vande Bharat trains, is an ongoing process. The Amrit Bharat trains feature 12 sleeper coaches and 8 general coaches, aiming to deliver quality service to a broad audience, particularly those from lower-income backgrounds.
According to the Railway Minister, these Amrit Bharat trains are equipped with cutting-edge technology to ensure a smooth travel experience. They come with modern amenities such as sliding windows, foldable snack tables, bottle holders, and mobile holders, among others.
