All central employees are getting the benefit of the increase of the Seventh Pay Commission. More than 10 million central government employees and pensioners are eagerly waiting for the 8th Pay Commission. But when will it come, does the government have an opinion on it?

Although the government has not yet given any official information about the Eighth Pay Commission, recent media reports suggest that the Narendra Modi government may completely abandon the formation of the 8th Pay Commission. The Union Minister’s talk has also pointed to this.

Won’t the 8th Pay Commission come?

According to media reports, the government may implement a new mechanism for pay revision in place of the Pay Commission. Quoting employee union leaders, the report claimed that there is a possibility of a new method. The report quoted Shiv Gopal Mishra, secretary of the staff side of the National Joint Consultative Machinery Council (NC-JCM), as saying that there is a possibility that the Centre may resort to a different mechanism.

When will the term of the 7th Pay Commission end?

The recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission were implemented in January 2016. Going by past trends, where the government usually constitutes a new pay commission every 10 years, there is a growing expectation that a new panel will be formed soon to submit its report in time for implementation from January 2026.
