The BJP-led modi government now takes big decisions. By this decision, lakhs of people will benefit. Yes, you’ve heard it right. States have shown good enthusiasm for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for urban areas. More than 25 states have signed MoUs with the central government for the implementation of the scheme.

PM Awas Yojana

Earlier, the government had linked 147 banks and financial institutions to it. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has so far organized two national workshops to clarify the modalities of implementation of PM Awas Yojana, which were attended by representatives of all the states.

During this time, the states also signed MoUs. This is important because this time the norms have been tightened for transparency in the selection of beneficiaries in the MoU. Further, states are required to formulate a policy for mandatory affordable housing. PM Awas Yojana 2.0 has been launched to provide pucca houses to one crore people in urban India. These houses are to be built in the next five years, and about ten lakh crore rupees will be spent on them.

Allotment of 18 to 20 lakh houses

According to sources, 18 to 20 lakh houses may be allotted in the first year. This scheme is also considered to be very important from the perspective of employment generation. More than three crore jobs are expected to be created in the construction of houses. Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal, said in the workshop that there is a need for accountability and responsibility for the implementation of this scheme; it should not be lacking.

Referring to affordable rental housing under the scheme, Mr. Manohar Lal said that for the first time a housing scheme has been introduced as a separate vertical to provide adequate affordable rental housing to working women and industrial workers.

Kuldeep Narayan, Joint Secretary and Mission Director, Housing for All, said that the second phase of the scheme has been launched after learning a lot from the first phase of the PM Awas Yojana. States have many options for reforms. Every state must have an affordable housing policy.
