Big update revealed regarding US H-1B. The US H-1B visa quota for the fiscal year 2025 has been full. The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has confirmed that the standard 65,000 visas and the application quota for 20,000 advance visas for this year has been met. New applications are no longer being accepted.

However, the processing for extensions, modifications, and transfers for H-1B visa holders is still ongoing. The statement issued by the organization said that USCIS will continue to accept and process applications that currently have H-1B visas and seek extensions. Or want to make some kind of amendment in your visa. As per the report, USCIS has started notifying rejected applicants through their online portals. In the registration status of these people, “Not Selected: Not selected – not eligible to file an H-1B cap petition based on this registration” will be written.

What is the H-1B visa program?

The H-1B visa program allows US companies to recruit foreign professionals in certain positions. A high level of expertise and qualifications are sought for the application of this visa. This program is especially for people working in technology and other high-skilled industries.

According to USCIS data for 2024, H-1B visa approvals at major US companies have decreased significantly. However, Indians still have the highest number of professionals taking H-1B visas. But the number of visa approvals in key organisations, especially in the technology industry, has fallen significantly.

Decrease in the number of visa approvals

Multinational company Amazon is still maintaining its position to issue H-1B visas. But the number of approvals it has also denied. In 2023, the company had over 11,000 approvals, which has dropped to around 9,000 in 2024.
