Good news for state government employees. The West Bengal government has rolled out some temporary bonuses. On Tuesday, they announced that state employees who don’t qualify for a ‘productivity linked bonus’ (which is based on performance) and earn less than Rs 44,000 as of March 31, 2025, will receive a bonus of up to Rs 6,800 each.

Additionally, Navanna made it clear that the bonus cap is set at Rs 44,000, no matter if employees are on the old pay scale or the new one. Those earning more than Rs 44,000 won’t be eligible for this ad-hoc bonus.

Curious about how the bonus is calculated?

To figure out how much bonus you’ll get, take the number of months you’ve worked and divide it by 12. Then, multiply that by your salary as of March 31, 2025. The result will be your ad-hoc bonus, but it can’t exceed Rs 6,800. So, if your calculated bonus comes out to Rs 7,000, you’ll still only receive Rs 6,800.

What about contractual employees?

Contractual workers who have been on the job for at least 120 days and had a fixed salary during the 2024-25 financial year will also get an ad-hoc bonus. Their total salary for that year will be divided by 12 to determine the bonus, but again, it won’t go over Rs 6,800.

When can you expect to see this bonus?

1) The state government has announced that Muslim employees will receive their bonuses before Eid.

2) Employees of other religions will get their bonuses just ahead of Durga Puja, specifically between September 15 and September 19.
