Government telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) offers its customers one offer after another to retain them. BSNL’s recharge plans are cheaper than those of private telecom companies, offering powerful benefits. Now, BSNL is seeking approval from the Finance Ministry to implement the second Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS).

The aim is to reduce the number of employees by 35 per cent and improve the company’s financial health. BSNL has sought Rs 15,000 crore from the Finance Ministry to cover the cost of the VRS rollout.

According to the Economic Times, the company’s board has proposed reducing its employees by 18,000 to 19,000 through this scheme. This is a step to strengthen the company’s balance sheet. How much will be spent on the salary of employees?

Currently, BSNL allocates about Rs 7,500 crore or about 38 per cent of the company’s revenue to the salaries of its employees. The ET report said that after getting approval from the Finance Ministry, the Ministry of Communications will take the approval of the Cabinet. The employees include more than 30,000 non-executive employees and 25,000 officers.

On Monday, the board of BSNL approved VRS to reduce the salary bill. According to the report, a senior official talks about the scheme. No final decision has beemadeen yet. timesbull.com does not confirm this report.
