Aadhaar-PAN Card: Big news for Aadhaar and PAN Card holders. Recently, there’s been a surge of internet users jumping on the Ghibli AI image trend, transforming their favorite photos—whether of cricketers, celebrities, or others—into Ghibli-style images using AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Grok. People seem unconcerned about their personal data as they share these creations on platforms like WhatsApp, X, LinkedIn, and Facebook. However, troubling instances of AI technology being misused are emerging. This tech is enabling the quick creation of fake Aadhaar and PAN cards in anyone’s name, which can easily mislead unsuspecting individuals.
ChatGPT is generating fake Aadhaar and PAN cards
A significant number of counterfeit Aadhaar and PAN cards made with OpenAI’s ChatGPT are circulating online. We tested this by asking ChatGPT to “Create an Aadhaar card prototype for a man named ‘AMAN’ with the address ’00/0000 zero colony South Delhi,’ including a random number and a photo of AMAN.” In just a few minutes, it produced an image resembling an Aadhaar card, which you can see below.
Next, we prompted it with “Generate a PAN Card for the same person,” and within moments, ChatGPT generated a PAN card prototype for AMAN, which is also displayed below.
Many such fake Aadhaar and PAN cards are popping up on social media, so it’s crucial for people to stay vigilant.
Risks of fake Aadhaar and PAN cards
Aadhaar and PAN cards are essential documents for individuals in India. The Unique Identification Authority of India issues Aadhaar, while the Income Tax Department provides PAN cards. These documents are necessary for accessing various government services, including banking. Therefore, the rise of fake documents created through AI is a serious issue. Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, and other government IDs are vital for identity verification.
