Good news for middle class people. Especially if you are a ration card holder then this news is very helpful for you. The Telangana government is set to roll out a program providing free rice to those with ration cards. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will officially kick off this initiative on Ugadi, which falls on March 30 this year.
Starting April 1, the Civil Supplies Department will replace doddu rice with free rice at all ration shops throughout the state. Each ration card holder will receive 6 kg of rice based on the number of people on their card.
Sufficient supply for four months
The state is also offering a bonus of Rs 500 per quintal for fine rice harvested during the monsoon season. Sources from the Civil Supplies Organisation report that 8 lakh tonnes of fine rice have been collected after milling paddy at rice mills, and this stock is currently stored in district warehouses. From there, it will be distributed to mandal-level stock points and then to ration shops.
Officials believe that the fine rice from the milling process will last for the next four months. Telangana has a total of 91,19,268 ration cards, benefiting 2,82,77,859 individuals.
Smart ration cards with QR codes
The Telangana Civil Supplies Department is working on introducing new smart ration cards, each featuring a QR code. Various designs for these smart cards are under consideration, and the design process is expected to wrap up in a few days.
