Good news for state government employees. Finally The state cabinet has approved the decision to allocate Rs 14,000 crore for the payment of arrears or arrears to state government employees and pensioners.

The state government has announced that a cabinet meeting took place, led by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. During this meeting, they decided to bring some joy to state government employees.

A spokesperson from the Chief Minister’s Office shared that they are now processing the revised salary and pension arrears for the period from January 1, 2016, to June 30, 2022. They’re also disbursing leave encashment funds. Additionally, the pending dearness allowance (DA) for both current and retired state government employees from July 1, 2021, to March 31, 2024, will be paid out.

This decision is set to benefit millions of state government employees. The Chief Minister’s Office revealed that clearing the Rs 14,000 crore in dues will directly help around three lakh state employees and an equal number of pensioners who have been waiting for their DA and salary arrears for quite some time.

While the Punjab government shared this positive news, central government employees are eagerly anticipating their own good news. They’re hoping for another increase in their DA, which currently stands at 53 percent under the Seventh Pay Commission. Many speculate that this increase could be around 3 to 4 percent.

The 8th Pay Commission has already been announced for central government employees, and it’s expected that its recommendations will take effect from January 2026. Before that, there are plans for two phases of DA increases: one starting January 1, 2025, and another in July 2025.
