A very good news for government employees. Actually there is good news for the employees of Coal India. Coal India has bumped up the variable dearness allowance by 1.2%, bringing the total to 21.3% for coal workers. This change will kick in on March 1, 2025.
The new dearness allowance will be applicable from March 1 to May 31. Employees will see a minimum benefit of Rs. 370 and a maximum of Rs. 2350. This adjustment will impact around 2.5 lakh employees at Coal India. The General Manager for Labour Force and Industrial Relations has notified all the CMDs of the subsidiary companies about this update.
The new rates will be in effect from March to May 2025.
It’s worth noting that the VDA for workers is reviewed every three months. This time, workers will receive a VDA of 21.3%. The updated VDA will be in place from March 1, 2025, until May 31, 2025, and will apply to Coal India and its subsidiaries nationwide.
An office memorandum was issued on March 7 regarding the VDA payments for non-executive employees for the period from March 1 to May 31, 2025. The Variable Dearness Allowance is adjusted quarterly and is paid out on March 1, June 1, September 1, and December 1 each year, based on the average AICPI numbers for the respective quarters.
