The Government of India has recently introduced the upgraded version of the Permanent Account Number (PAN), known as PAN 2.0. This new iteration offers enhanced security features and includes a QR code on the PAN card. While QR codes were first added to PAN cards back in 2017-18, many individuals still possess older versions that lack this feature.
Although the official launch of PAN 2.0 is still a few months away, we want to guide you through the process of downloading a new PAN 1.0 with a QR code at no cost. The QR codes serve to verify the authenticity of details such as photographs, signatures, names, parents’ names, and dates of birth on the PAN card, making it easier to confirm the accuracy of the information.
To obtain a PAN card with a QR code, you will need your PAN number, phone number, and email address. You can then apply for PAN 1.0 through NSDL or UTIITSL, where you can choose to receive either an ePAN with a QR code or a physical PAN card featuring the QR code.
If your PAN was issued within the last month, you can download the ePAN for free. However, holders of older PAN cards will need to pay a fee of Rs 8.26 to download the ePAN with the QR code. The ePAN will be available in PDF format, while a physical PAN card with a QR code will cost Rs 50.
Having a PAN card with a QR code will offer a more secure and user-friendly identification option for PAN cardholders. This initiative by the government aims to enhance the reliability of PAN card information and help reduce instances of fraud.
