The central government launched the e-Shram portal in August 2021 for workers in the unorganized sector. The portal, introduced by the Ministry of Labor and Employment, aims to implement various social security schemes more effectively. This scheme focuses on the welfare of workers who are not members of EPFO or ESIC. Workers receive numerous benefits after obtaining an e-Shram card under this initiative.

What is the e-Shram Portal?

The e-Shram portal, introduced by the Ministry of Labor and Employment in August 2021, aims to improve the implementation of social security schemes for unorganized sector workers. This platform allows workers to register and avail themselves of multiple benefits.

Key Features of PM Suraksha Bima Yojana

It is a government-initiated accidental insurance plan for individuals aged 18-70 years.
The first-year premium is entirely free for workers, while subsequent years require a payment of only ₹12 annually.

Claiming Benefits in Case of Death

If a registered worker passes away, the claimant can submit the necessary documents on the e-Shram portal or at the nearest Common Service Center (CSC) to file a claim.

Additional Government Schemes Access

Workers registered on the e-Shram portal do not need to apply separately for other government schemes, as the platform integrates their benefits.

Who Cannot Register on e-Shram?

Members of organized sector schemes such as EPFO or ESIC are not eligible to enroll in the e-Shram portal. The portal is specifically designed for unorganized workers.
