Mukhyamantri Krishi Vidyut Yojana: The Bihar government has taken an important step for farmers by launching the Mukhyamantri Krishi Vidyut Sambandh Yojana. The main objective of this scheme is to provide irrigation water to every farm, helping farmers achieve higher production with less effort in farming. Under this scheme, agricultural electricity connections are being provided to farmers for free, replacing the need for diesel pumpsets. Through this article, we will share all the details regarding this scheme.
About Bihar’s Chief Minister Agriculture Electricity Connection Scheme
Previously, farmers in Bihar used diesel pumpsets for irrigation, which significantly increased their farming costs. The high price of diesel and the low efficiency of these pumps made irrigation both difficult and expensive. However, the Chief Minister’s Agriculture Electricity Connection Scheme has addressed this problem. Now, farmers are receiving free agricultural electricity connections, which are cheaper and more efficient than diesel pumps.
Achievements and Targets of the Scheme
Bihar has a total of 7.20 lakh diesel pumpsets. Of these, 3.60 lakh pumpsets have already been provided with electricity connections. The target of the Energy Department is to give electricity connections to 4.80 lakh pumpsets in the coming years. In the year 2024-25, the target was set to provide connections to 1.50 lakh pumpsets, and this has already been completed by December 2024. The remaining targets will be met in the coming years, ensuring maximum benefit for farmers.
Benefits and Features of the Mukhyamantri Krishi Vidyut Sambandh Yojana
- Lower Costs: With this scheme, farmers can irrigate their crops with electricity, which is 10 times cheaper than diesel. This will reduce their costs and increase their income.
- Higher Efficiency: Electric pumps are more fuel-efficient than diesel pumps, meaning farmers get more work done for less cost.
- Simple Application Process: There are no fees for the connection. Farmers can apply through the Kisan Suvidha App, the power distribution company’s portal, or at their local electricity office.
- Less Maintenance: Electric pumps require servicing every 400 hours, which reduces the need for frequent maintenance, saving both time and money.
Targets for the Mukhyamantri Krishi Vidyut Sambandh Yojana
The main goal of this scheme is to provide electricity connections to 1.50 lakh pumps in 2025-26. By September 2026, a total of 1.80 lakh pumpsets will be connected. The Bihar government has urged farmers to apply for these connections as soon as possible, as this will not only reduce farming costs but also help protect the environment. Electric pumpsets are more environmentally friendly compared to diesel pumps, and the scheme will also introduce modern technology to improve farming practices.
