Fastag Big update: The use of FASTag or e-tag will become mandatory in Maharashtra from April 1, 2025. This rule will be applicable to all toll plazas operated by Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). However, if a passenger does not use FASTag, he will have to pay the toll fee through cash, card or UPI, but in this case he will have to pay double.

MSRDC has made this change

MSRDC has issued a public notice regarding this change, making it clear that additional charges will be levied for not using e-tag. With this move, the government aims to make the toll collection process smooth and transparent.

Bombay High Court FASTag

The Bombay High Court has given its verdict on the PIL filed regarding FASTag, making the use of FASTag mandatory for all vehicle owners from April 1. According to an MSRDC official, the move is aimed at making toll operations more smooth and making traffic faster.

If passengers do not use FASTag from April 1

If passengers do not use FASTag from April 1, they will have to pay extra, while those who have FASTag will pay the normal fee. This decision has been taken to make the toll collection system more effective and transparent.

Under the new rule

Under the new rule, only light vehicles, state transport buses and school buses will be exempted from toll fee. All other vehicles will have to pay double if they pay toll by cash, card or UPI.

This rule will be applicable to major entry points of Mumbai under MSRDC like Dahisar, Mulund West, Mulund East, Airoli and Vashi. Apart from this, payment through FASTag will also become mandatory on Bandra-Worli Sea Link, Mumbai-Pune Expressway and other major expressways from April 1.

FASTag is a radio frequency

FASTag is a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) based electronic toll collection system that is affixed on the windshield of the vehicle. When the vehicle reaches the toll plaza, the FASTag system automatically deducts the toll fee from the linked bank account. This process does not require the vehicle to stop, thereby improving traffic speed and making toll payment more convenient and faster. FASTag is used to smoothen road traffic, save time and make the toll collection process transparent.
