Government Scheme: The state government of Bihar has initiated a scheme to provide free electricity connections to farmers for operating irrigation pumps, aiming to offer both complimentary connections and affordable electricity rates. Farmers currently relying on diesel pumps face significant expenses, which elevate their overall crop production costs.

Farmers can save substantial amounts of money

In contrast, electric pumps are considerably more economical. By transitioning to electric pumps, farmers can save substantial amounts on irrigation costs, thereby enhancing their profits and overall income.

CM Krishi Vidyut Sambandh Yojana

Under the Mukhyamantri Krishi Vidyut Sambandh Yojana, approximately 840,000 farmers in the state are set to receive free electricity connections. This initiative ensures that farmers will incur no charges for obtaining electricity connections for their agricultural needs. Furthermore, electricity will be supplied to these farmers at a minimal rate of just 55 paise per unit, resulting in significantly reduced electricity bills and substantial savings for the farmers.

Will help to decrease cost

This scheme has the potential to decrease irrigation costs for farmers by nearly 98 percent. Previously, the expense of irrigating with a diesel pump could reach up to Rs 100 per hour; however, the cost of using an electric pump has now plummeted to Rs 2 per hour. Small and marginal farmers are expected to gain the most from this initiative, as it allows them to carry out irrigation tasks at a fraction of the previous cost. Additionally, the state government is providing a subsidy of Rs 6.19 per unit, enabling farmers to access electricity at the advantageous rate of 55 paise per unit.
