The Telangana government is planning to distribute free rice to ration card holders. Telangana CM Revanth Reddy will officially launch this program on Ugadi, which falls on March 30 this year. The Civil Supplies Department is making arrangements to provide free rice at all ration shops across the state starting from April 1. Each person will receive 6 kg of free rice, based on the number of members on their ration card.
Sufficient Grain for Four Months
The state government is offering a bonus of Rs 500 per quintal for fine grain procured during the monsoon season. According to sources in the Civil Supplies Organization, 8 lakh tonnes of fine rice have been obtained after milling paddy in rice mills. This rice is currently stored in district warehouses. From there, it will be transported to divisional-level stock points and then to ration shops. Officials estimate that the fine rice produced from ongoing milling will be enough to last for the next four months. Telangana currently has 91,19,268 ration cards, benefiting 2,82,77,859 individuals.
