Gadkari’s new scheme
Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that his ministry has prepared a complete plan for the repair and improvement of national highways.
Under this scheme, the ministry has implemented an effective mechanism to repair various parts of the highway.
The Operation, Maintenance, and Transfer Unit (OMT) has been given the responsibility of repairing sections of the highway.
In addition, a Performance Based Maintenance Contract (PBMC) will be used to repair and improve the rest of the roads, giving contractors full responsibility to monitor and ensure the quality of their work.
Minister Gadkari also informed that the ministry has collaborated with various agencies to maintain roads and highways in better condition.
This includes the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), state-level Public Works Department (PWD) and Road Construction Department.
These agencies together will play an important role in maintaining national highways and keeping the traffic smooth.
Gadkari’s new roadmap: Design and strengthening of highways for protection from rain and floods
Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that special attention is being paid to the design of highways before their construction.
Its main objective is to keep the highways safe from damage caused by rain, floods, and soil erosion.
Gadkari said that work is also being done to further improve the drainage system so that water can drain out properly and the roads remain safe.
Apart from this, special attention will also be given to the construction of bridges and flyovers so that they are completely suitable in terms of convenience and safety of the people.
Under this new strategy, the structure of highways will be designed in such a way that they can withstand natural disasters and remain safe for a long time.
This step of Gadkari is an important initiative towards making the road infrastructure of the country strong and sustainable.
