Good news for state govt employees. Finally the government increases DA. Maharashtra’s government has some great news for its employees! On Tuesday, February 25, they announced a 12 percent increase in the dearness allowance (DA) for government workers, effective from July 1, 2024, all while keeping the pay scale from the 5th Pay Commission the same. This boost comes just in time for the Holi festival.
According to the Government Resolution (GR), the DA will rise from 443 percent to 455 percent. Employees will see this increase reflected in their February 2025 salary, which will also include back pay from July 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025. An official from the state finance department mentioned that around 17 lakh employees will benefit from this DA hike.
The order specifies that the costs associated with the revised dearness allowance will be covered by the budget set aside for government employees’ salaries and allowances. For grant-in-aid institutions and Zila Parishad employees, the expenses will be allocated under their designated financial assistance categories.
Employees had been pushing for this increase for quite some time, and there were organized efforts to make it happen. The government’s decision to raise the DA takes into account the current inflation rates, and employees are thrilled about it. They’re especially pleased that the DA owed for the past seven months will now be included in their February paycheck.
The state government has chosen to raise the dearness allowance to match what the central government is doing. It’s gone up from 50 percent to 53 percent. This change will benefit around 1.7 million government employees in the state.
