There’s some exciting news for gig workers in the latest budget announcement! Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman shared that the e-Shram Portal will now offer a registration option specifically for gig workers. This move is set to benefit around 1 crore gig workers. This group includes various roles like shop assistants, auto drivers, delivery personnel from Zomato, Swiggy, Amazon, and Flipkart, as well as laborers at brick kilns and more. All of these workers can now apply for an e-Shram card.

Currently, 30.58 crore workers from the unorganized sector are registered on the e-Shram Portal, which the government has created to ensure financial security for those in this sector. Gig workers who register can access a range of benefits.

In the unfortunate event of a cardholder’s death, their family can receive financial help of up to Rs 2 lakh. Additionally, if a cardholder faces disability due to an accident, they can get assistance of up to Rs 1 lakh. But you might be wondering how gig workers can register.
