Scheme’s primary goals
Dr. Madan Giri, Senior Veterinary Officer of the Animal Husbandry Department, stated that the scheme’s primary goals include generating employment, fostering entrepreneurship, and improving productivity per animal. The government offers a 50 percent subsidy for the rearing of sheep, goats, and poultry, as well as for the development of fodder. The National Livestock Mission Scheme provides financial assistance to farmers aspiring to increase their income and achieve self-employment.

Dr. Vinay Mohan Khatri, Joint Director of the Animal Husbandry Department, noted that the scheme allows for a maximum grant of Rs 25 lakh for a poultry farm with a total cost of Rs 50 lakh. Additionally, a maximum grant of Rs 50 lakh is available for sheep and goat units, as well as for the establishment of fodder block production or fodder value addition units.
The financial assistance is disbursed in two equal installments. The first installment is provided by the lending bank, while the second installment is released upon project completion, also through the lending bank on behalf of the government. Eligible applicants include individuals, self-help groups, farmer producer organizations, farmer cooperatives, joint liability groups, and companies registered under Section 8.
