Various schemes are being run by different governments in the interest of the common man. Meanwhile, crores of people in the country are benefiting by taking advantage of these schemes. In today’s article, we will discuss one such scheme that has set a record in recent times. Today we will discuss the pink ticket scheme.
What is the Pink Ticke Scheme?
The free bus travel scheme launched by the Delhi government on the occasion of Bhai Dooj in 2019 has received an overwhelming response. Since the inception of the scheme, more than 150 crore women have traveled free of cost in DTC and cluster buses. The scheme has also led to an increase in public transport usage among women and a 25 percent increase in the number of women traveling in buses. This includes 15 percent new female passengers, who are now regularly traveling in buses.
Aam Aadmi Party national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal shared information about this information on social media on Tuesday, saying in a post, “Every month lakhs of women are taking advantage of the pink ticket to travel free, and their savings are now becoming the support of their family’s needs.” As a son and elder brother, it is my dream that every daughter and sister should become self-reliant and fulfill their dreams. Kejriwal said that it is good to know that more than 150 crore pink tickets have been distributed in Delhi buses so far, and every month lakhs of women are getting this free ride.
How many women travel in the bus every day?
The increasing number of Pink Passes shows the success of this scheme. On average, 42.4 lakh passengers travel daily in DTC and cluster buses in Delhi, of which around 20 lakh are women. 48.2% of tickets in DTC and 44.4% in cluster buses are of pink pass. This means that DTC buses have a higher number of women.
Under this scheme, women traveling in buses are given a pink ticket of Rs 10 as a single journey pass, through which they can travel in buses for free. According to the number of pink tickets sold, all the expenses of the journey are borne by the Delhi government. DTC and private bus operators are paid based on the total number of pink tickets. However, this scheme is completely voluntary. Women can also travel by taking normal tickets if they want.
