Big news for everyone. Starting April 1, stealing GST data and committing fraud is going to be a lot tougher. The Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) rule will kick in for all GST users, making it way harder to access someone else’s data or pull off any fraud.

Update Your Phone Number on the GST Portal

With MFA in place, you won’t be able to log in without a One Time Password (OTP). So, it’s super important for everyone to update their phone numbers on the GST portal this month to ensure they can receive the OTP without any hiccups.

New Changes for Traders

There are also updates to the e-way bill rules coming on April 1. Business owners with a turnover exceeding Rs 10 crore will need to submit their e-invoice details on the Invoice Registration Portal (IRP) within 30 days. If they miss that deadline, the invoice will be rejected. Right now, this rule only applies to businesses with a turnover of Rs 100 crore and above.

Dining at Hotel Restaurants Might Get Pricier

1. Dining at hotel restaurants could become a bit more costly starting April 1. Hotels with room rates below Rs 7500 will be able to claim input tax credit (ITC) along with an 18% GST.

2. Currently, food in restaurants at hotels with room rates under Rs 7500 is charged at 5% GST. If these hotels opt for the ITC with the 18% GST, dining there will definitely get more expensive.

3. From April 1, the GST on the sale of used normal and electric cars will increase from 12% to 18%. This change will apply to agencies selling second-hand vehicles.
