In today’s time, the Aadhaar Card has become a very important document for every Indian. Whether it is for banking work or availing government facilities, it is required everywhere. Aadhaar contains all essential information like name, date of birth, mobile number, photograph, and biometric details. It is also important to link your Aadhaar card with your bank account, PAN card, and mobile number.
You may already know these things, but do you know that the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) issues four types of Aadhaar cards? According to UIDAI, all four types are valid. Let’s learn about them.
1. Aadhaar Letter
The Aadhaar Letter is a paper-based laminated document that includes a secure QR code along with the date of issue and printing. It is sent via regular mail when a person enrols for Aadhaar or updates their biometric and demographic details (except mobile number and email). If your Aadhaar Letter is lost or damaged, you can order a replacement online for ₹50 through the UIDAI website. It will be delivered to your registered address via India Post’s Speed Post service.
2. e-Aadhaar
e-Aadhaar is the digital version of the Aadhaar card, verified electronically. It has a secure QR code for offline verification and is password-protected. You can easily download your e-Aadhaar or masked e-Aadhaar (which hides the first eight digits of your Aadhaar number) from the UIDAI website using your registered mobile number. With every Aadhaar enrollment or update, an e-Aadhaar is automatically generated and can be downloaded for free.
3. mAadhaar
mAadhaar is an official mobile app developed by UIDAI. It allows Aadhaar holders to store and access their Aadhaar details on their smartphones. This includes the Aadhaar number, demographic details, and photographs. It also has a tamper-proof QR code for offline verification. Like e-Aadhaar, mAadhaar is recognized as a valid identity proof and can be downloaded for free.
4. Aadhaar PVC Card
The Aadhaar PVC Card is the latest version of the Aadhaar card, printed on durable PVC material. It includes a secure QR code, photograph, and demographic details with multiple security features. You can order it online from the UIDAI website for ₹50 using your Aadhaar number, virtual ID, or enrollment ID. The card will be delivered to your registered address via India Post’s Speed Post service.
