EPFO members must complete Aadhaar-based verification to maintain the active status of their UAN. Instructions regarding this have been issued to employers (companies and firms) by the Ministry of Labor and Employment. All UANs must be authenticated with a One Time Password (OTP) from the phone number linked to the Aadhaar number for EPFO members to access government schemes. During the initial stage, employers must activate UAN via Aadhaar OTP for all staff by November 30 of the current fiscal year. Following this, all other employees must also complete the verification process.
Activating UAN will allow workers to access EPFO’s online services to obtain all information about their PF account. The new system will have the ability to easily log in. Additionally, it will assist in accessing and saving PF passbook, filing online requests for withdrawal, advance, and transfer. Updating personal information and monitoring claims will be a simple task as well. This will eliminate the need for employees to rush to EPFO offices. During the next phase, facial recognition technology will be implemented for biometric authentication in addition to UAN activation.
The Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme was declared in the Union Budget 2024-25 by the government. To ensure that as many employers and employees as possible can benefit from the scheme, the Ministry has instructed EPFO to launch a campaign with employers to guarantee the activation of employees’ Universal Account Numbers.
