Women aged 58 years and older will receive a 50% discount, while men aged 60 years and older will benefit from a 40% discount. Who are eligible for this?
Eligibility for this scheme requires women to be at least 58 years old and men to be at least 60 years old. The concession is exclusively available to Indian citizens and applies to regular bookings, excluding Tatkal tickets. To book online, individuals should visit the IRCTC website, log in or create an account, enter travel details, select the “Senior Citizen Concession” option, upload proof of age, complete the payment, and download the ticket.
Indian Railways offers various amenities to enhance the experience of senior passengers, including reserved priority seats in general coaches, wheelchair assistance at major stations upon request, and separate queues to expedite ticket booking and check-in. Additionally, lower berths are prioritized in sleeper and AC coaches. This concession is valid for Mail, Express, Rajdhani, Shatabdi, and Duronto trains.
Tickets can be purchased through the IRCTC online portal or at railway ticket counters with valid identification such as an Aadhaar card or Voter ID. The primary objective of this scheme is to provide financial relief to senior citizens with limited incomes, making travel more accessible.
