Indian Railways: The luggage of train passengers is frequently lost during travel, causing them to encounter various issues. Considering the issues faced by passengers, the railway has periodically been offering amenities. One of these services is the retrieval of misplaced baggage. Indeed, have you ever considered that the baggage misplaced on the train can be retrieved?
A recent incident has published in media report, a family was journeying in B-2 coach of the 18238 Amritsar-Bilaspur Chhattisgarh Express. The family was traveling from Bhopal to Durg. In this period, a female family member misplaced her Mangalsutra valued at Rs. Two hundred fifty thousand. Deepak Srivastava shared this information on the Rail Madad App. Once the data was received in the app, the railway administration notified the onboard CTI.
Once the CTI learned of this, he summoned the attendants and initiated the search. Additionally, he mentioned that if the mangalsutra was missing, he would contact the RPF at Raipur station to have it investigated. The inquiry was occurring throughout the whole coach when, after a while, a female passenger notified the CTI that her mangalsutra had dropped and she received it back.
What to do first?
If a traveler’s bag is taken from the train during the journey, you should initially reach out to the train conductor, coach attendant, guard, or GRP escort. You will receive an FIR form from these individuals. Once this form is completed, it will be forwarded to the police station for appropriate action. If you need to finish your journey, you can also submit this complaint letter at RPF help posts located in any railway station.
Will you get refund?
According to the regulations, if baggage is taken from the train, the railway will provide compensation. However, this advantage is exclusive to passengers who pay a fee to book luggage in the railway system. In case the reserved luggage is damaged, the railway compensates the traveler. If the price of the booked luggage hasn’t been stated beforehand, the railway will provide compensation up to Rs 100 per kg. However, the claimed amount must not exceed the stated value of the luggage when booking.
