The government is spending Rs 1600 crore every year on this scheme. The scheme was launched on 12 April 2005.

Women applying under Janani Suraksha Yojana will have to submit certain required documents. These required documents include Aadhaar card, voter identity card, delivery certificate issued by the government hospital, bank account number of the woman.
