Good news for women. Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has introduced an innovative program called “Bima Sakhi” aimed specifically at empowering women. This initiative is crafted to enhance women’s financial independence and encourage their active involvement in the insurance industry. Through this program, women can explore new job opportunities, helping to uplift their families’ financial situations.

Launch of the Bima Sakhi Scheme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled this scheme in December of last year. During the launch, he emphasized that the goal is not just to connect rural women with the insurance sector but also to foster self-sufficiency and create new job prospects for them.

As reported by Dynamite News, the initiative also aims to recruit 100,000 Bima Sakhis within a year, providing rural women the chance to become insurance agents and play a role in raising awareness about the significance of insurance in their communities.

What is the Bima Sakhi Yojana?

The Bima Sakhi Yojana is a dedicated program from LIC for women aged 18 to 70, with a focus on those who have completed their 10th grade. This scheme is designed to train women in the insurance field, offering them the chance to become insurance agents. Participants will undergo a three-year training program covering various aspects of insurance and its importance.

Who stands to gain?

With the Bima Sakhi scheme, the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) is set to choose 25,000 women to become Bima Sakhi representatives. These women will receive a monthly stipend during their training, providing them with financial support.

In the first year, they’ll earn Rs 7,000 each month, which will drop to Rs 6,000 in the second year and Rs 5,000 in the third year. Over the three years of training, this totals more than Rs 2 lakh. Additionally, participants in the Bima Sakhi Yojana will also earn bonuses and commissions, boosting their overall income.

A fantastic chance for women

The Bima Sakhi Yojana offers an excellent opportunity for women to achieve self-sufficiency. This program not only educates them about the insurance industry but also empowers them to promote and sell insurance products within their communities.

By doing so, they can support themselves and provide financial stability for their families. Plus, they’ll have the chance to work as insurance agents, opening up a new avenue for employment and helping them gain financial independence.
