Mahila Saksham Yojana Update: Making women self-dependable is one of the primary goals set by the government. As a result, both state and central governments have introduced an increasing number of schemes to provide financial assistance to women. Financial independence plays a crucial role in achieving self-reliance for women.
With this objective in mind, Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) has recently launched the Mahila Saksham Yojana. Let’s understand the details of this scheme and identify the women eligible for financial assistance under it.
Which women will get financial assistance?
Under the Mahila Saksham Yojana, financial assistance will be provided only to those women who are financially weak. According to media reports, this scheme has been specially designed for the economic betterment of women members of volunteer groups. This scheme has been launched under the Center’s Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihood Mission initiative. This scheme is based on the ‘Lakhpati Didi Yojana’ of the Ministry of Rural Development to benefit women entrepreneurs by ensuring financial self-reliance.
Women to Become Lakhpatis Soon
As mentioned earlier, this scheme is modelled on the Rural Development Ministry’s Lakhpati Didi initiative. Along with promoting economic advancement, the scheme aims to provide women with a minimum income of ₹1 lakh per year, leveraging entrepreneurship as a key medium.
In a statement, the Indian Overseas Bank said, “The objective of this scheme is to ensure that women earn a stable annual income of at least ₹1 lakh per family through financial assistance and entrepreneurship.”
