The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has just announced the Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Amendment Rules, 2025, which focuses on Aadhaar authentication under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial, Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016. This change is all about boosting transparency and making the decision-making process more inclusive.

Making Aadhaar authentication more user-friendly

The main goal of this amendment is to broaden the use of Aadhaar authentication, promoting good governance, social welfare, innovation, and knowledge sharing. By doing this, Aadhaar can enhance how services are delivered.

This will ultimately make life easier for people and ensure they have better access to a variety of services. With this amendment, folks can enjoy smoother benefits from e-commerce, travel, tourism, hospitality, and healthcare services provided by both government and private sectors.

Any organization looking to use Aadhaar authentication must submit an application to the relevant ministry or department of either the Central or State Government. This application should follow a specific format available on a designated portal and include all necessary details. The UIDAI will review these applications, and approval will be granted by MeitY based on UIDAI’s recommendations.

Once the concerned ministry or the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology confirms the application, the organization will be notified about the use of Aadhaar.

This change aims to improve access to efficient Aadhaar-enabled services for individuals, promote the creation of innovative digital solutions that utilize Aadhaar authentication, and strengthen collaborations between the government and various entities for enhanced governance solutions.
