Toll Tax: Traveling on the national highway is set to become more costly, necessitating an increase in your expenses. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is planning to raise toll tax rates once again, which will impact not only heavy vehicles but also two-wheelers and four-wheelers. The new toll tax rates are scheduled to take effect from April 1. The updated list of toll rates under NHAI will be released by midnight on March 31.

Toll tax rates were not increased in April

Following this update, toll tax rates will rise. Previously, the toll tax rates were not increased in April due to the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024; however, new rates were implemented in June after the election results were declared. As is customary, toll rates on Sitapur Road in Lucknow will be applicable in October. NHAI imposes toll taxes on vehicles traveling through Nawabganj on the Kanpur Highway, as well as Ahmedpur, Raunahi, and Bara on the Ayodhya Highway, and Dakhina Sheikhpur on Raebareli Road.

Consequently, traveling through these routes will become more expensive starting April 1. NHAI Project Director Saurabh Chaurasia has indicated that toll tax rates on national highways are typically increased annually. This year, the increase will be standard, with the new rates to be announced shortly. Reports suggest that the toll tax may rise by five to ten rupees.

New toll tax rates

NHAI is set to implement the new toll tax rates at midnight on March 31. Therefore, it is evident that you may need to budget more for travel on these routes in the near future.
