Everyone is eagerly waiting for formation of 8th Pay Commission. But when it will formed nobody knows. Now central govt talks about it. There is no plan to set up the 8th Pay Commission. Over one crore central government employees and pensioners are awaiting the formation of the 8th Pay Commission as it will help them revise their basic pay, allowances, pension and other benefits.
In response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said that at present there is no proposal under consideration for setting up of the 8th Central Pay Commission. MLAs Javed Ali Khan and Ramji Lal Suman asked if the central government was thinking of making an announcement about the new pay commission in the Union Budget 2025-26 to be presented on February 1, 2025.
The 7th Pay Commission reformed pay structures, allowances and pensions with priority to pay parity. This change had a positive impact on both central government employees and retired pensioners.
When is the 8th Pay Commission going to be implemented?
The Central Pay Commission is normally constituted every 10 years to assess and suggest changes in the salary, allowances and perks of the central government employees. These guidelines take into account inflation and other external factors. The 7th Pay Commission was constituted by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on February 28, 2014. It submitted its findings on November 19, 2015 and the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission came into effect on January 1, 2016.
Accordingly, the next Pay Commission – the 8th Central Pay Commission – will generally come into effect from January 1, 2026. Whenever a Pay Commission is implemented, there is generally a revision in the pay structure of central government employees and pensioners. The salary generally includes dearness allowance and dearness relief (DR).
Something in new pay commission?
As per many reports, Modi govt could introduce a new mechanism to ensure timely salary and pension revisions for central government employees, replacing the traditional pay commission-based approach. The government may introduce a new mechanism in place of pay panels for salary revision
If the 8th Pay Commission is formed, the salaries and pensions of employees will increase significantly. That is why more than one crore employees and pensioners are waiting.
