Transgender individuals in Haryana are set to receive identity cards, which they can obtain from the District Magistrate. A welfare board will be established to ensure they can access government benefits. Additionally, hospitals will create separate wards for them to ensure they receive proper treatment without any hassle.
Seeking Feedback
The Department of Social Justice, Empowerment, Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Welfare and Antyodaya (Services) is inviting feedback and objections from stakeholders over the next month regarding the proposed Haryana Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Rules-2024. According to the draft, the District Magistrate is required to issue the identity card within 15 days of receiving an application. Within two years of the rules being implemented, the government plans to develop essential facilities, including rehabilitation centers, temporary shelters, short-stay homes, housing, separate hospital wards, and accessible toilets in public places.
Complaints must be addressed within 30 days
All establishments will be required to provide training and education to promote positive behavior towards transgender individuals. Educational institutions will set up committees to address any incidents of harassment or discrimination.
The government is committed to implementing effective measures to eliminate discrimination in both public and private sectors, ensuring equal opportunities in areas like education, hiring, job advancement, healthcare, public transportation, sports, leisure, and office environments.
Transgender individuals will have access to essential facilities, including unisex restrooms, safety provisions like secure transportation and guards, as well as necessary amenities such as hygiene products, to support them in fulfilling their roles within the organization. Every grievance officer is required to address complaints within a 30-day timeframe.
