Ever since the Modi government at the center approved the UPS scheme, a large section of employees have been opposing it. Some provisions in the UPS scheme are believed to have sparked the protest. While the employees supported OPS, they strongly opposed both NPS and UPS, launching a large-scale campaign against the proposed scheme.
The employees have launched this campaign on the social media platform X, urging others to amplify the movement. The OPS employees opposed the new scheme, posting one after the other. OPS kept trending on social media throughout the day.
In addition, the secretariat convened a meeting to discuss the restoration of OPS and the subsequent strategy. The NMOPS chief stated that the government has misled the employees by replacing OPS with the UPS scheme.

The NMOPS chief said something big.
The NMOPS chief said UPS and UPS are the same, but employees are losing more. In the meantime, General Secretary Mukesh Raturi expressed a clear understanding that the benefits of UPS are only available to those who have served 25 years. He explained how the process of confusing employees is being carried out.
At the same time, implementing the OPS scheme would have been more beneficial given the amount of effort the government has put into changing the UPS scheme’s rules. The government is causing significant harm to employees through the UPS scheme. The employees will continue their protest until OPS is restored. The employees’ goal is to retake UPS as soon as possible and implement OPS.
Discrimination against electricity employees
The employees reported that the outdated pension scheme in Uttarakhand primarily discriminates against electricity employees. All three energy corporations have excluded the engineers and employees of the 2002 batch from the old pension. In 2002, 2004, and 2005, the energy corporations recruited engineers and employees on a large scale.
Moreover, Uttarakhand decided to discontinue the previous pension scheme after 2005. On the other hand, efforts are underway to provide the benefits of OPS to those employed before October 2005 in other departments of the state, as well as to those employed after 2005 in Uttarakhand, in accordance with the Centre’s guidelines.
