Big announcement for individuals who have PAN and Aadhaar Cards. The last date for connecting Aadhaar and PAN has passed. Therefore, if you complete that task now, you will be required to face a penalty. Currently, the Centre is requesting Rs 1,000 for this. The deadline to connect Aadhaar with PAN expired on June 30 of the previous year.

The following day, on July 1, unlinked PANs were deactivated by the Income Tax Department. In February of this year, Pankaj Chaudhary, the Minister of State for Finance, revealed the quantity of PAN and Aadhaar numbers that have not been linked. As of January 29, 2024, there are 11.48 crore PANs and Aadhaar waiting to be linked. He stated that the government exchequer has received Tk 600 crore in fines until January of this year.

According to Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act, 1961, taxpayers are required to link their Aadhaar and PAN. Failure to do this will result in their inability to submit income tax returns. The initial deadline for linking PAN with Aadhaar was set until March 31, 2023. However, it was later prolonged until June 30th.

Currently, you have the ability to link PAN and Aadhaar from the comfort of your own home. To do this, they must sign in to the Income Tax Department’s e-filing portal. The homepage of the portal contains a section known as ‘Quick Links’. The customer must select the Aadhaar option link.

When you click on the Aadhaar link, a form will pop up on the screen. It must be filled with great caution. In the form, customers must input their PAN and Aadhaar numbers in the designated field. These two numbers need to be considered when writing. If the two numbers are not written accurately, the entire procedure can be annulled.

After completing the form, select the ‘Continue to pay using e-pay tax’ button. Following that, the customer will need to re-enter their PAN number in the designated field. An OTP will be promptly sent to the customer’s mobile number on file. If given, the e-pay tax page will be displayed on the screen.

Following that, the customer will receive a penalty notice on the same page. He will need to deposit thousands of rupees using it. After the deposit of money, the linking of PAN and Aadhaar will be done. Following that, the consumer can visit the Aadhaar status on the website and verify if the integration has been completed.
