Nowadays, many people start planning for their children’s future from a very young age. If you want to invest in the name of the child, open a bank account in their name, or make them a nominee in your investments, then you may need a PAN card for the child.
Apart from this, even if your child earns on his own, his PAN card may still be needed. Since minors cannot apply for a PAN card directly, their parents or legal guardians have to apply for a PAN card. This application can be done both online and offline. Apply from home
- To get a PAN card for children, their parents or legal guardians have to apply. For this, they have to first go to the NSDL website.
- Form 49A has to be filled from there. Read all the instructions carefully to fill Form 49A. Fill all the personal information by choosing the right category.
- Now upload the minor’s age certificate and other required documents including the parents’ photo.
- During this, upload only the parents’ signature and submit the form after paying the fee of ₹ 107.
- You will then get a receipt number, which you can use to know the status of the application.
- After applying, you will get an email. The PAN card will reach your address within 15 days of verification.

Easy way to apply offline
If you want to apply offline for a child’s PAN card, you need to download and fill Form 49A from the official website. After this, attach two photos of the child, all the required documents with the form and submit it to the nearest NSDL office along with the fee. After verification, the PAN card will be sent to the given address.
Keep these documents ready while applying.
- The address and identity proof of the minor’s parents will be required.
- The address and identity proof of the applicant are also required.
- As proof of identity, the guardian of the minor has to submit any one of the documents like Aadhaar card, ration card, passport, driving license, voter ID card.
- For proof of address, a copy of Aadhaar card, post office passbook, property registration document or domicile certificate has to be submitted.

When the minor turns 18, he/she has to apply for a PAN card update, in which he/she can get his/her photo and signature updated.
