Applications have started again for the second round of the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS). The Ministry of Corporate Affairs announced this in a press release. According to the release, applications are now open for the second round of the first phase of PMIS. Under this scheme, more than 1 lakh youth will get internships in leading companies across 730 districts in the country.
Who Can Apply for This Internship?
Under this scheme, youth aged between 21 to 24 years can apply. Applicants must not be enrolled in any full-time academic program or job. This scheme was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the July 2024 budget. Its main goal is to provide unemployed youth with the right opportunities. A total of 1 crore youth will get internships in top companies to help them prepare for employment.
The First Round Started in October
The first round of the pilot phase of the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme began on October 3, 2024. Companies registered internship opportunities on the pminternship.mca.gov.in portal. More than 6 lakh youth applied, and the last date for applications was November 15, 2024.
Last Date for the Second Round & How to Apply
To apply for the second round, candidates must create a profile on the official website and apply for internships in different sectors. In this round, candidates can apply for up to 3 internships before the deadline, which is March 12, 2025.
Monthly Assistance of Rs 5000
Selected candidates will get a 12-month internship along with a monthly stipend of Rs 5000. Additionally, a lump sum grant of Rs 6000 will be provided after completing the internship. The estimated cost of the pilot project is around Rs 800 crore, and the internship will begin on December 2, 2025. More than 500 top companies will offer internships under this scheme.
Insurance Coverage for Interns
Interns will get insurance coverage under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana. Additionally, companies will provide extra accident insurance coverage to the interns
