PM Kusum: The government of Telangana has made another important decision aimed at boosting farmers’ income. It has undertaken creative measures to connect solar energy production with farming. Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) initiative, farmers in the state are being provided the chance to establish solar power installations on their farmland.
Solar power production in farmers’ lands
In line with this goal, Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu stated that approvals are being granted for solar power production in farmers’ lands. The Deputy CM stated that the Telangana government intends to enhance farmers’ earnings by producing solar energy in their fields via the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthan Mahabhiyan initiative. It offers a chance to establish solar farms in unused and arid agricultural areas. Under this plan, electricity ranging from 0.5 megawatts to two megawatts can be produced.
Benefits of the initiative
Deputy CM Bhatti stated that this aims to produce pollution-free energy and offer extra income for farmers. He mentioned that farmers have the option to lease their farmland for the establishment of solar power facilities. The rental sum will be allocated according to the arrangement made between the farmers and the developers via DISCOMs. Applications for this program must be submitted digitally via TGREDCO. Consequently, DISCOMs will acquire solar electricity at a cost of Rs. 3.13 per kilowatt hour (KWH) for a period of 25 years, stated the Deputy CM.
Process for application
• This scheme is open for participation to farmers, cooperative societies, panchayats, farmer producer organizations, and water user associations.
• You can submit your application online via the TG REDCO website.
• Solar facilities can be established close to the substation referenced in the surrounding TG REDCO list.
