PM Surya Ghar… The free electricity initiative kicked off in February 2024. This program lets the Government of India offer subsidies for rooftop solar panel installations, giving users free electricity for up to 300 units. More and more people are signing up for this electricity savings plan. Reports indicate that the goal is to set up 2.5 million solar panels in Uttar Pradesh within the next three years.
The number of people applying for this free electricity program is on the rise. Government statistics show that around 13 million individuals have already registered for the PM Surya Ghar scheme. While it currently takes about 30 days to process the subsidy, the government plans to speed things up to just 7 days soon.
Subsidy goes straight to your bank
The central government is the one footing the bill for the solar panel subsidies in this scheme. The subsidy amount is directly deposited into the applicant’s bank account. For installations, the government offers Rs 30,000 per kW for up to 2 kW and Rs 48,000 per kW for up to 3 kW. Installing a 2 kW solar panel can cost around Rs 1.5 lakh, while a 3 kW setup might run up to Rs 2 lakh.
How to apply for the scheme
1. First of all, go to https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in portal.
2. Click on the registration option.
3. Enter your state, district, electricity distribution company and electricity consumer number.
4. Then the mobile number and email ID have to be entered.
5. Now login with electricity consumer number and mobile number.
6. Click on the rooftop solar option to apply.
7. After applying, you get feasibility approval.
8. After this, you get the solar panel installed from the registered vendor.
9. After installing the solar panel, submit its details.
10. Apply for Net Meter Now.
11. In the next phase, after installing and checking the net meter, the commissioning certificate will be generated from the portal.
12. After getting the commissioning report in the last step, upload the bank account details and canceled cheque on the portal.
13. After this, the subsidy money will come in your bank account in 30 days.
14. If you cannot register online, you can also register by going to the nearest post office.
