Good news for common people. The government has introduced two new plans under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, allowing homeowners to install solar panels at no cost. These initiatives aim to enhance the existing subsidies provided by the scheme, enabling individuals to access affordable and clean electricity.

The New and Renewable Energy Ministry of India has released updated guidelines for the Pradhan Mantri-Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme. These guidelines include two additional payment options for rooftop solar system installations. These new options are designed to eliminate financial barriers to installing solar panels. The process can be easily facilitated with the assistance of a Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) and the local Power Distribution Company.

The government has introduced two key options:

1. RESCO Model: In this model, a third-party organization will handle the installation of solar panels on your roof at no upfront cost. You will only need to pay for the electricity generated by the solar panels that you consume.

2. ULA (Utility-led Aggregation) Model: Here, electricity companies or state-nominated organizations will install solar panels at your residence without any cost to you, allowing you to benefit from lower electricity rates.

The setup of subsidies

In both of these models, the government has established a Payment Security Mechanism (PSM) and Central Financial Assistance (CFA) to ensure that you can benefit from subsidies in any situation, while also guaranteeing a safe installation of solar panels.

Approval of 100 crore rupees

Additionally, a budget of Rs 100 crore has been allocated for this initiative, allowing for the safe installation of solar panels on rooftops in partnership with power and service companies under the RESCO and ULA models.

With the new guidelines, you now have more options available, making it easier to install solar panels at your home. This process has been streamlined and made more transparent through the national portal.
